Stories of Feeding God's Children Hungry in Body & Spirit

A Haitian mother’s desperate call is answered

A Haitian mother’s desperate call is answered

“My children haven’t eaten. I gave them water with salt to stop their stomachs from hurting.”

A few weeks ago, Maillard, who works closely with our partners in Haiti, shared this story. His phone rang close to midnight. A mother had fled violence and arrived in Jérémie with nothing but her children and the clothes on her back. Exhausted and scared, she was out of options.

She was not asking for sympathy. She was asking for food.

In Haiti right now, many families are living day to day, hour to hour. Violence and instability have disrupted jobs, markets and transportation. Food is scarce — and expensive. Parents cannot count on tomorrow looking any better than today.

Because of donors, Maillard could answer with action. He said: “We’re coming.”

That is what support makes possible: Donors fund lifechanging meals, volunteers pack them and our trusted partners deliver to children and families who need food now.

The very next day, this mother had a box of FMSC food in her hands — because of you. It was immediate relief and a first step toward stability. Later, she reached out again to say thank you. She said she felt like she could breathe again.

When Maillard shared what happened, he asked a powerful question: How many children are still drinking saltwater just to make it through the day?

Our generous donors are the reason help can arrive quickly, with urgency and dignity.

Will you give today to help provide life-sustaining meals for children and families facing crisis?
