South Sudan | Africa

A new FAO–WFP report names South Sudan one of the world’s most critical hunger hotspots. More than 7.8 million people — over half the population — are facing crisis-level hunger or worse.

Hunger is spreading into areas once considered more stable. Escalating conflict, repeated flooding and soaring prices are making food harder to grow and afford. Since war began in Sudan, more than 1.4 million refugees and returnees have crossed into South Sudan, adding pressure to communities where food is already scarce.

More families are arriving. More meals are needed.

Up to 3,000 refugees and returnees continue to arrive from Sudan each week.

FMSC food distribution partner ForAfrika is using MannaPack® Rice to reach food-insecure families and schools across four regions of South Sudan. Between January and March, 12,672 refugees at Gorom Refugee Settlement received FMSC meals.
