Stories of Feeding God's Children Hungry in Body & Spirit

'No Truer Way to Live My Faith'

'No Truer Way to Live My Faith'

"But Jesus called the children to him and said, 'Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.'" – Luke 18:16

Heather Harris fell in love with picture books when she was a child. She would spend hours drawing and painting her favorite scenes. Now the artist, college instructor and mom of three publishes children’s books and donates half of the proceeds to Feed My Starving Children.

“I love to see the smile on people’s faces when I tell them after they buy a book that they have fed a starving child today,” Heather said. “They really light up and appreciate that they played a role as well.”

The talented writer and artist has both retold children’s classics and written and illustrated original works. Heather has published Five Hungry Mice, The Swing and Cloverand the Shooting Star.

Heather is on a quest to share lost literary treasures with today’s young readers by bringing them to life with her illustrations, according to Buffalo Heritage Unlimited.

“I like to paint stories because stories tell us who we are, connect us to our community and reflect the rhythms of life,” she said on her blog (pictured below).

She first became involved in FMSC through a MobilePack™ event while teaching at Villa Maria College. She brought her kids and the whole family was immediately hooked.

“What really speaks to me about FMSC is that everything they do is done in faith and with prayer and trust in God’s provision and God’s people,” she said. “This aligns with my faith and my belief that we all can make a difference. “

Heather knew that when her first book was ready to be published she wanted to give back to God and benefit children. Donating 50 percent of proceeds to FMSC was a natural conclusion.

“I felt like there was no truer way for me to live my faith,” she said.

From Heather:

Whenever I read the Bible I am impressed at how much Jesus loved children. When I had my own children I began to understand. They are so sweet, honest and trusting. They have complete confidence that you will take care of them and intend only good for them. Jesus calls us to come to the Father like small children, with trust and confidence. If helping children through writing and illustrating picture books or giving to children through donations to FMSC keeps me more childlike and keeps me trusting God then I am the one who is truly blessed.
