Stories of Feeding God's Children Hungry in Body & Spirit

My FMSC Story: Brandon

My FMSC Story: Brandon

Brandon is the site manager at Feed My Starving Children's newest permanent packing site in Richardson, Texas. This post is part of a series where Feed My Starving Children staff share their FMSC story. Follow along on social media with #MyFMSCStory.

Nearly 10 years ago, I was 19 years old, I left my small community in South Louisiana and traveled to eSwatini (formally Swaziland) to spend a year volunteering with Children’s Cup.

This was my first long term missions experience and the longest I’ve ever been away from home. I was not prepared for my world to change so radically.

Children’s Cup has many care points throughout the small southern African Kingdom of eSwatini. These care points act like refuge, life giving centers throughout the country.

These centers serve hundreds in the surrounding communities with school programs, medical aid, Bible clubs, and daily feeding programs. I will never forget the day I was introduced to Feed My Starving Children.

We were at the care point leading a Vacation Bible School program full of activities and fun for the kiddos.

We kicked off the event with dancing (everything in Africa must involve dancing).

Gazing across the sea of kids one caught my eye and later my heart. She had absolutely no rhythm and was in her own little world but personified overwhelming joy.

Watching her a bit more closely I discovered she had some form of disability. I asked the teachers and the cooks more about her.

I learned she used to be extremely shy. She would only come up to the care point fence to watch the other kids play but never would come in.

One day a cook invited her in and served her the MannaPack™ meal but she would not eat with the other kids she would sit in the corner.

Now, she would come inside the care point but she would always isolate herself.

As time passed, her confidence began to grow and she slowly participated in more activities with children her age.

I would have never known this back story by looking at the girl in front of me. This little one knows hope and joy because a meal opened a door.

Throughout my time in Africa I would witness many lives that would be forever changed because of FMSC meals.

Needless to say, I quickly became a huge believer in FMSC after seeing lives transformed before my eyes. When my time in Africa came to a close and I would return to the states I would volunteer as much as possible with FMSC MobilePacks.

My story is unique; I was introduced to this amazing organization on the other side of the world.

And packing FMSC meals in the states became personal. I could see specific kids’ faces, think of specific names, and know the exact places these lifesaving meals would go.

When I heard of an opportunity to join the FMSC team, I knew in my heart I had to take it.

On April 9 2018, I joined the FMSC team and it was one of the best life decisions I’ve made!

I absolutely love waking up every day, coming to work with the top notch Richardson team, all to feed God’s starving children.

My name is Brandon King and this is my FMSC story. It’s not finished, its only getting started, and I believe the best has yet to come.
